The overburden drilling system consists of a dth hammer, an eccentric reaming and pilot drill bit, a guide device and casing. The eccentric drill bit reams outward and rotates to drill a larger hole, allowing the steel casing to be put into the hole at the same time. Rock dust is blown out of the hole through the casing.
With ODEX, part of the impact energy is transferred to the casing through a shoulder on the guide, which in turn impacts a special casing shoe at the lower end of the casing.
